Lathe chuck stuck on spindle
I was screwing the 8 inch 4 jaw chuck onto my Herless lathe, that I had fitted a VFD to. Why not just switch it on and let the motor turn it on slowly. It wasn't slow enough. It hit the end/register or whatever and there it stayed for about 4 months. I couldn't get it off. It took me about a day to make up something to grip the hollow shaft on the other end of the headstock and with a length of thick wood and chain pulled up tight around the chuck with a bolt, I got it undone. DON'T USE MOTOR TO SCREW A CHUCK ON.
Whilst on the subject of this Herless SSB 16 BUK, can anyone confirm what the thread is on the spindle? It appears to be 2 and 9/16 inches 8 tpi imperial or is it some metric thread that is similar. I need to acquire a backing plate or make one to suit to mount faceplate on. Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi, I know this is a bit different, but on my wood lathe, I place a paper/cardboard disc against the register before the chuck goes on, come off a lot easier. And YES you're right don't power the chucks on.

I have a II buk which is basically the same as the ssb 16 buk ,I can check tomorrow what the thread is on my lathe spindle as I am thinking it will be the same, although your lathe is a little larger
why do you need a backing plate for your face plate as the one that came with the lathe has it;s own thread,or are you making up one.

Have posted a new thread
Thanks for the answers to this problem with faceplate. I have just started a new thread regarding this as it is a bigger problem than I had anticipated.
