    Hi Brian,
If i was tapping so small i would want to have both the tap wrench and the part in my hands so i could feel any twisting of the tap etc. If you counterbore from the bottom with a 2mm drill you can then use the counterbore as a guide for the tap and it will have to go in straight. I'd also try to get hold of a gun nose tap, these push the chips out the bottom of the hole and you do not need to constantly back them off to break the chips up. Most of the taps i have broken have jammed when backing them off, not when doing any actual cutting.
    Cheers,
    Ew

    Default Number Drills

    Brian
Here are some number drills that could solve your tapping drill problem, if you cannot get the metric ones.
    No 52 .064" dia
    No 51 .067" dia
    No 50 .070" dia
    No 49 .073" dia

    Thanks Ew and Bruce,
from both of your advice I beleve the problem will be solved. I can do with a few number drills! and counterboring form the bottom to use as a guide is such good sense!
    regards Brian
