Default Mini Mill owner who also have a Rotary Table

What Rotary Table did you purchase for your Mini Mill? Have you mounted a 3 or 4 jaw chuck to the Rotary Table? If so, what chuck and type did you mount (and how did you mount it?)

    Thanks

    Jim,

I have the H&F Toolmaster 100mm tilting rotary table, R0014 | TRT-4 Tilting Rotary Table | machineryhouse.com.au but it needed substantial work to make it tilt in a vertical plane ie I had to line bore and ream the base and the table castings on the lathe, and make up a new pivot pin to bring the pin and table face parallel with the mounting base.
The table mechanism seems fine, although it has a 36:1 ratio, which appears to be unusual.

Due to the vertical space limitations on the mini-mill, I decided to make up a very slim-line 4 jaw holding fixture for the rotary table, made from an old cast iron pulley with guide slots cut using an end mill and a No.6 woodruffe cutter, jaws machined from an old piece of steel, and 8mm clamping screws.
The fixture mounts on the rotary table using the supplied T-nuts, and is centre aligned on the table by a small circumferencial lip machined into the back of the cast iron base with a close fit to the rotary table face.

It works OK, is quite rigid, and has been used to cut the flutes in the tap and dovetail cutters detailed in other threads.

    Pictures attached.

    Andrew.

Welding it on would make fitting the chuck to your lathe tricky

I've found it handy at times to be able to move the workpiece, "chuck and all" from the lathe to the rotary table and back. So you might want to see if you can make that work, cant help much as A. I dont know size chuck and mount the C6 uses. B. I dont know if that Rotary table is big enough(though even if its a 4" I'd think you could make it fit).

    Hi Jim,

A front mounting chuck is the easiest option, just 3 bolts and t-nuts. If that's not an option, then maybe am adaptor plate.

If that is a 4"/100mm RT then I don't know if 100mm front mount chucks are available?

I have this 130mm front mount on my 6" Vertex RT.

Another option would be a Morse Taper mounted chuck, such as this one (providing that hole in the RT has a Morse Taper?)

    Yeap the 4" and 6" have MT2 the 8" are MT3.
    I assume its a 4" but thats just a guess as the 4", 6" and 8" have 3 slots

That would be real handy as the C6 has an MT3 spindle so you wouldnt need an adaptor on the rotary table.

    Thanks for the replies.

The RT is 4" with three (3) slots.

I have searched for front mounting chucks and have seen a few, but they are drilled for four (4) screws.

I have considered getting a 80mm three jaw off eBay for $80.00 and 'having a go at drilling right through it and countersinking the holes to match the RT' not sure how that would go. The other idea I've had was a backing plate of 100mm and that would leave me 10mm around the outside with the 80mm chuck. Not a lot of room having just 10mm to work with though.

    Welding is looking good again
