Thread: new member I think not

I've been following this forum for a number of years but haven't joined because I don't have anything of value to say, until now. Firstly let me say some of you are extremely good lathe persons, but not very good persons. I hate the way you get together and bully other members, I have seen it a few times here and some members have been banned or left because of it. That is all I wanted to say except for some of the fence sitters to get off the fence and say something. I am very disapointed and now I will cancel my membership.

It's all too easy to swan in with a critical post and then just leave. It doesn't help one scrap because the "not good persons" ,and sometimes even those that have been criticised, often don't have a clue who they are, so you could even be reading up the wrong tree to begin with. If you actually bothered to actively participate by courteously pointing out what you think are the error of the "not good peoples" ways, and supported those who were being criticised, then that would be much more helpful.

Looks like someone has a real problem.

Very well put Bob. I can sort of understand what he is saying up to a point but I still think this is the best forum around. We wont even mention that forum that is short for afternoon.

Did I miss something? I know quite a few people on this forum personally, and they have all been awesome, creative, passionate people that are generous with their time and knowledge and there is many more that I would like to buy a beer for, or at least hangout with for an arvo and download their brains.

Ive met a few blokes from hear as well and id say they were all top hands.
there is also the very large number of users that seem to tirelessly help

Well I thought that this is a post that I can reply to.

Yes I have not put up any great projects. I mainly get roped into odd jobs for mates or friends of mates. Yes it can be frustrating when at the end of 6 hrs of machining, on and off you get, wow thanks, and you are still left with the clean up. BUT when I have asked for info or a suggestion, the combined group on this forum have always been positive and helpful. And I do believe that if I asked for help with something that was out of my machining capabilities there would be, go to members.
SO in response to the negative post from the member who is going to cancel, so be it, your loss, no sleep lost on my part.

If I ever gang up with someone and bully someone else - someone please tell me off immediately!

The great thing about this forum 'style' is that I feel I can 'trust' the members not to "have a go at me" with malice. We seem to be able to allow misunderstandings and differences of opinions, even when poorly expressed. Whenever this happens, members seem quick to apologize or clarify gracefully.

I don't think we can expect the forums to stay the same over the years and more significant still is the fact that members will change.

From my own interest perspective I find the attraction to the forums varies according to what I'm doing and how much time I have - even though it's perhaps not as interesting as it was when I joined. now that I'm retired I'm spending way to much time on these forums also because most of what I do can be put off to another time. I have just about stopped working completely in the shed in the evenings where as when I was working I'd always put a couple of hours in after dinner.

I started lurking and then participate for the how-tos and tips and trick, but now I'm finding find some of the posts a bit repetitive - but much less so in this forum than others.

The other thing I really liked about this particular forum is the level of innovation or flow of ideas, but the amount of innovation that interests me seems to oscillate a fair bit.
