    Default The missing bits

I sent off a couple of DTI's to WA for a holiday a couple of months back and they had a great time, but it prompted me to find out what else should have been in the box with the Interapid DTI. I found a catalogue and the answer is this -

    Accessories (Medium).jpg

From what I can work out, you could buy a DTI by itself (but in the same box) and all it would come with is the tip spanner. If you had the extra cash you could get the accessory kit with it as shown. Mine came secondhand and did not have that lot - I had a number of extra tips, three of the knuckles, the arm, indicator and a home made collet. Being an ordered sort of guy who likes a full set, I set about finding the missing parts. Of course, as the saying goes "you have to kiss a lot of toads until you find a prince". Here it's "you have to get the duplicates before you get a complete set". I still haven't got the probe holder (the white tube) but I can make one easily enough. However, as far as accessories I now have 2 collets (one home made), 3 boxes (all with tip spanners), 3 arms, 4 knuckles and one rectangular bar. I also have a spare rear post for the indicator, a longer flat section that will replace the flat bar in the middle of the arm when required and a different sort (smaller) of bar. The bar and collet seem to be the rare bits - perhaps because they are useful else where. For anyone else in this situation, this is what they look like

And before anyone asks - the spares already have a home...

    Hello Michael,

Is the tubular probe holder simply a receptacle for styli?

Yes - the clips it mounts in are around 10mm from memory so I was thinking about machining something up from some 12mm nylon and putting a screw cap on it. It doesn't need to be too sophisticated as it is only containing the tips.
