Thread: Hafco Imperial and Metric Drill, bolt, tap gauges

I bought a pair of these a few weeks ago -





If you don't own a set.......get some!!!! These things are so bloody handy for $16.50

For years I put off buying a set as eyes were good enough to read some of the worst damage/worn drill bits............not these days and I still have drills from my apprentice days as well as new sets. They also do well as back up wire/bolt.screw sizing guages I have misplaced my twin sheet metal/wire guage thingy somewhere it will turn up it does this every now and then.

digital calipers work for me

wouldnt they be more useful than a gauge?... with ability to measure other things

One can't have to many good useful things in a workshop.

true...but I'd need a bigger shed, and then I'd forget where I put it.

My missus keeps on at me to build an extra shed so I have more room to "play" when I'm retrenched/retired. I think she might be worth keeping

I agree - especially since with most of my drill bits being in 0.1mm increments.

The most likely time I measure drill or bolt sizes is when I clean up.
One of the first things I do is pick up are some Digital Calipers so that I have them with me while I clean up.

A more tricky thing to sort is nut thread pitches.
Most of my stuff is sorted into metric and imperial containers so I have often thought of setting up something like a set of threaded rods like they have in hardware stores.

I am not saying this is a bad thing but think carefully about her reasons for saying this!

Seriously, my wife is very similar. She is more than happy for me to build a new shed and keeps suggesting that I look out for a cheap second hand one. A big one. Mind you I have a lot of area to build on LOL. About 40 odd acres. The only problem is to find an area that is not under water during winter. At the moment you need rubber boots to walk around from the back of my current shed to the imp shed / track and then to walk just about anywhere else on the property. Another normal winter. We haven't had many in the last 13 years.
