    Default Height Gauge Price

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has bought a new height gauge lately. Just trying to get an idea for a price for either a 250mm or 300mm version. Actually any size will do. I got a price from DRO in the UK for a 150mm digital Chinese one for approx $150.00 including freight. Ebay and Gumtree have nothing of interest.

    Cheers Ben

    Hi Ben,
Although I'm not into to steel, have you tried John McJing, in Sydney.

    Hi Ben,

I used a cheap digital calliper to make mine. I modified the jaws and used the cut off piece to fabricate an extension to the existing moving jaw so that I can get down to zero hight.
I had a four inch by half inch cast iron disc that I used for the base. Total cost £10 for the callipers plus a couple of hours machining. The really hard part was getting the calliper column exactly square to the base. I will take a couple of photos later.

I dropped out of the bidding at Boeing on a Mitutoyo 600 digital at $210 ($260) 'cause I already have a 500 Chinese one I bought 20 years ago. Being a Patternmaker and using it on a printers stone is a bit rough and ready but better than nothing.

Before i bought GQ's 300mm dial Mits i was looking on ebay US, there were some good looking smaller ones to be had a decent prices, but once you get to the larger ones the shipping cost goes through the roof because they are too long for a flat rate box.

What size and on what sites Ewen? I don't need anything bigger than a 300mm.
