That's the least of what I would be saying in that circumstance. As you say, at least the method works.

On coil winding machines, they are not all that complicated. There is a spooling device who's rotational speed is geared down from the spindle drive. If the coils are always the same width then a bi-directional screw is used; if not then a tumbler mechanism is used so that the leadscrew that guides the wire is reversed at the right point. In this day of cheap electronics I dare say that one of our intrepid electron tamers would use a stepper motor and define the coil width as a number of pulses which in turn would be divided from an encoder on the main spindle.

Well coil #2 has been made this afternoon...

And I did snap a few pictures....

My resistance goal according to an online calculator which calculated the resistance from the coil dimensions came back at 1.86k ohms... My coil measures 1.8k ohms... That will do me...

The coil is finished and the exterior has been painted with a waterproofing shellac solution... May not look amazing, but it will hopefully work...

I can confirm the coil works in the lathe.... I now have dynamic braking and a lot of smoke coming off the resister load bank...

    Hi .RC.

Nicely done, another skill mastered! You'll have all those guys on PM wanting you to make coils for them

    Regards
    Ray
