Default WIll this fit my new lathe?

engineering machine shop equipment | Miscellaneous Goods | Gumtree Australia Melton Area - Melton

    G'Day everyone (again),
I saw this post on gumtree and hope some kind soul can tell me if this will fit my new AL250g lath (10 x 20).
My lathe is still in the crate and all being well my son will help me get it off the ute and onto the stand this weekend. (There's an engine crane on the ute too)
The QCTP is the sort of price I can manage at the moment, so, I'm really hoping it will fit.
My thanks in anticipation of any wise comments.
    regards Brian

    Brian,

from my read of that add the centre height is 280mm. That is about 11", that would make it for a 22" lathe. Your lathe is only 10" right?

    Cheers

I'd have to agree with Piers037, the swing on your lathe may be a bit short. It is worth a look though. Take your compound slide and four way tool post with you if you decide to have a look, that way you can compare.

If possible ask the seller to explain his 280 centre distance.

He might of meant swing which should still be ok for your lathe.

Ask the seller to let you know the height of the block and compare it to yours plus 20 mm shouldn't be a problem.

    Thanks Guys,
Yes the Al250g is a 10 inch lathe.
At least I can measure it now-"IT'S BOLTED TO THE STAND!!!!"
I'm guessing the same as you, that it's for a 22 in lathe but the pics don't look like the QCTP is that high.
I can't go look at it--it's in victoria and I'm in Queensland.
I have already left the seller a note asking for more details--but he has not responded (yet).
    Thanks for the comments.
    regards Brian

    Hi Brian,
I fear you haven't read your PM's yet.
My only hope is that you see this before I leave. I am heading down that way this morning and will pop in and have a look if you need me to.

Bargain. I bought one of these a few years ago but with only 4 tool holders and paid $200 for it, which I thought was a good price. It would more than likely be off a Colchester as thats what they came with (probably as an option). I use mine on a McMillan (honden) lathe which is a 160mm centre height ( I think - Its been a while since I used the lathe due to a seperation/divorce etc) The one I have is slightly too big for my lathe, but only just. Its still usable but the holders end up being quite low on the main body.
Its a pity the seller didn't put up a pic showing the dimensions.

As a matter of interest, how do I measure the 'centre height'? Is it from the underside of the toolpost to a centre held in the lathe chuck?
    regards Brian
