What is this?
Hi... I am more often lurking in woodwork handtools but I have inherited some gear, some of which i haven't the faintest idea about. Can the collected intelligence give me a pointer so i cn at least hit google with a keyword. First is a centre but it is adjutable, rotatable complete with insect? A chuck of some sort but has dials? And a pack of what look like awls? Some have handles. others look like they are ready for handles that would suit a needlefile say? Have worked out the micrometer from the extensive Mitotuyo site.
Grateful for advice.
Cheers
SC

The centre is an adjustable height centre for use with dividing heads or small two-way rotary tables. The chuck is a boring head...used with boring bars in a milling machine to mill a hole to precise diameter.
The other things I am guessing: engraving tools?

Hi what I see is a mitutoyo micrometer from what i see is part of a bore measuring set the micrometer head is definitely an internal mike. the reamers are jet reamers for carburettors car etc got a similar set here next is a boring head ,next is a universal tail stock used with a dividing head or a rotary table height is adjustable for tapers and clocking in on centre. the others are swiss files i think cant see through the pack well enough. Cheers John. On another note did you inherit the boxford lathe too?

Thanks! It was all dad's so I did grow up with it all but some later shed additions slipped past me and I never got the chance to get a deomnstration. Yes, the Boxford ME10 was delivered new in, i think, the late 70s and the Hafco mill in the 90s. And a Unimat in a cupboard somewhere. There's a lot of stuff. Recently cleaned out the shed and I can now actaully walk in the side door and out the roller door so have been able to pull out some of the mysteries... No doubt i'll have more stuff that comes to the surface.

Graving Tools?
G'day SC, I think Greg is close about the tools on the plastic wrap & round container. From my old clockwinding days, I'd say they are Graving tools - used for machining very small items in a jewellers lathe. Depending on the style of the tool, some are used for cutting and others for 'burnishing' (shaping without cutting). I also had a great time resurrecting much of my old dad's stuff.
Regards, Daryl

Interesting. Why on earth did he have them in his collection? I'll pull them out of the packet and take a better photo. They appear to be unused. Maybe they were on the Oneday List. I think i might have inherited that trait given the length of my list...
