Time To Educate Daryl (again!)
Over at the Gloat, I bought a QCT pretty cheap @ H&F the other day. Dave thinks it was a good buy, so that makes me very happy!
https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/L295
But since I have not used a QCT before, I'd like now to ask some questions since my H&F 250G is about the minimum limit for this QCT. I have not yet mastered the art/s of inserting pix in the text, nor the art of lifting quotes from other posts, so please bear with me. And this isn't a test??
Q1. Is the 8mm bolt in the 'nuetral' corner used to fit up to a T-nut in a circular T slot in the compound slide?
Q2. My existing post bolt is M10x1.5 - when I make an extension, will it be sufficient for the QCT? (Centre hole is 5/8")
Q3. The existing TP has a spring loaded pin so the the TP only rotates ACW. Why is it there?
Q4. The adaptor (between the Comp.Slide base and the QCT - yet to be made) will cover the spring loaded pin making it ineffective. Does this matter?
Please feel free to answer anything else that I should have asked, but didn't.
Thanks in advance, Daryl

Q4 No.
Q3 So that you can lock the tool post in place after indexing
Q2 You can probably get by, but it would be nicer if it were bigger as rigidity is everything
Q1 Not sure what you mean. It could be a stop so that the QCTP does not move under load. Some people don't install it because it stops the tool post swivelling. Others subscribe to the view that with a QCTP you shape the tools not rotate the post (quickly ducks for cover)

It is a Chinese variation of the well known British Dickson Toolpost. Once you know that, it is easy to Google "Dickson Toolpost" for a wealth of information and pictures.

Don't worry about the bolt or the spring loaded indexer, it will push down out of the way. I took mine out.
Make up a stud M16 and turn down the end to suit you M10.
Once you start using it you will want more holders

Fitted Up!
Thanks all for your responses - the QCTP is now fitted up & works a treat.
Following Dave's advice, I made a new tool post bolt from a M12 bolt, reduced to M10 for the threaded portion, then a stepped spacer to match the base of the QCTP with the recess in the compound slide. So that I could still use the old TP (with the new bolt), I machined up a dual purpose stepped spacer that fits the QCTP when inserted small dia down, then the old TP when used full length.
In keeping with 'Forum Rules', only scrap materials were used and no 'mods' to the QCTP were required.
Regards, Daryl

That came up great, good thinking on the spacers.
The quick change tool post will be so much better.
