Default Free backing plate from a junked treadmill

No, I'm not giving one away.

I bought a 6" three jaw Burnerd chuck for $25 the other day, which I was quite pleased with, and needed to make up a backing plate for it.

I'd long thought that the cast iron flywheel/pulley from junked treadmill motors would make a great backing plate for the right sized chuck, so I dragged one out and yep, dead on the money - perfect for 6 ".

So here's a couple of photos of the elcheapo backing plate. This only works for lathes with bolt up 6 " chucks as there's only enough metal for that situation.

I machined out most of the centre.

Anyway, it worked out perfectly for me. Next job is to true up the jaws with the TPG.

That huge centre on the chuck is going to be very handy - the old one was often just never quite big enough to pass stuff into (only 1 ").
