Default Anyone dabble in metal spinnng? Small (and I mean small) job.

I need a dish for a candle stick holder about 150ish mm diam. Very shallow continuous radias like a plow disk, in steel or brass or copper. Any one able to do this? Or know of somewhere in Aus that I could get one? Found a place in th4 US, but always like to go local really. Willing to pay a reasonable amount. Might get more later if the one I have made gets a good reaction from buyers.

I could ask at work. I know he already has the spinning formers for candle holders.

    Default The Spinner.

    Hi Anna-Marie,
I looked at this many years ago, & was told there was a Metal Spinner, & I think he was in Scoresby.
Can't tell you anything more than that.
    Regards,
    issatree.

Have you thought about making male and female dies and pressing them? I have also dished into a large diameter ring using top plate of the right radius using a sledge hammer!
Another thought, have you checked out what Artistic Wrought Iron Supplies of Silverwater Sydney have? I think they have steel candle cups (dishes) from 55mm to 125mm in diamter.

Tea Lady, Just noticed your southern location!
Melbourne Aluminium and Iron Lace have a similar range. Just google wrought iron components and you will find both of them.

I thought of you today, as we drove past the Wauchope- Johns River area where I think you live.
Thought about the good times we had at that great School .... Ashfield Tech.
I have been reading a book about the WW2 & the unbelievable experiences our metal work teacher Vic Duncan went through after the sinking of the HMAS Perth in Sundra Strait, off Java.
    What a wonderful teacher!
    All the best.

Oh ta! The top of my candle holder is 100mm , but I guess the biggest size could do at a pinch. :maybe turn another larger dish myself to make the proportions right.

Making my own would be fun I am sure, but the learning curve might be too steep to get something made in time. Plus I have way to many other things I need to get done as well. :S

Prolly will try some time though.
