Gedore 80mm Ratchet Ring Spanner
I picked up this Gedore 80mm Ratchet ring Spanner Gedore80mmRatchetringspanner.jpgat a local market for cheap enough to be a wall hanger. I am wandering if someone might know what size bolt and nut would fit this toy? I am toying with the notion to turn the bolt and make the corresponding nut out of wood, just to display it.

In metric terms, M6 is 10mm A/F - so if the spanner is 80mm A/F, I'd say it would be M45 or M50.

Hi Pat,
Found this Dimensions of Metric Hex Nuts 80mm doesn't seem to be an ANSI standard, most charts only go to M36, which has a 55mm head size1915 17"x50" LeBlond heavy duty Lathe, 24" Queen city shaper, 1970's G Vernier FV.3.TO Universal Mill, 1958 Blohm HFS 6 surface grinder, 1942 Rivett 715 Lathe, 14"x40" Antrac Lathe, Startrite H225 Bandsaw, 1949 Hercus Camelback Drill press, 1947 Holbrook C10 Lathe.

An 80mm spanner would fit an M50 threaded bolt.
Or you could make a 2" Unified with a slightly bigger head; normally it would have a 3" AF hex head (75mm). It all depends on what you have available for cutting the thread but as this is just for an ornament 2" UNC, 2" WHIT or M50 will all do.

It actually won't... ISO standard says AF = 1.8 x thread diameter for noin-structrual and AF = 2 x thread diameter for structural. However that is only applied to about M20....
Closest I can find for AF = 80mm is for M52, which comes in standard pitches of 5,4,3,2 and 1.5mmCheers, Joe

Thanks boys, I finally remembered that I had the Fastener Black book on my desk, looked up the Spanner Selection Chart on Pg 53, and for an 80mm spanner, M52 is the bolt. The nut is 80mm max x 42.9mm thick (Style 1 - Grade C, Pg 148)
