Interesting you say that Chris....i have been thinking all day there is a question i want to ask related to this subject....and you almost answered it there!

I have read several times and seen it in a movie, that blacksmiths used to keep fingernail clippings and hair, dry it, grind it up and use it for case hardening. I never really knew if it was real or another "katana can cut through a machine gun barrel" type myth or not. But if horse hooves work then nails and hair should too. Thoughts anyone?
