    Hard to tell from the pics. I went thru the originals again and still had to go look to be sure. I should start cleaning up the shed for concreting during the week but need some excitement so may puul it apart to see how it works.

    Speaking of concreting the manual gives a diagram for a slab. 850mm X 2400mm X 400mm on top of what looks like 200mm of base of some type.

    That's a fair thickness of concrete Dean.

    The slide pivots around the boss in the middle of the slide (the one that was to the left of the black round nut). Both nuts have to be loose for the slide to pivot (doesn't pivot around either of the nuts) and the scale is positioned and drawn for this.

    This is the structure that bolts onto the cross slide dovetails. Shouldn't be difficult to make one up if you want one.

    Further thoughts - for those without T slots in their cross slide, a bolt on dove tail and a tool post like this could be one way to get that added functionality if you wanted it. You would want a goodly number of bolts and a dowel or 4 but I can see no reason why it would not work. It would reduce clearance over the cross slide by the dove tail thickness if going full width though.

    Well that's one advantage I hadn't thought of. You can leave it set for a certain taper and go back to normal turning. And I would think you can swap between the two modes pretty quickly.

    My local machining friend has a taper turning attachment for his Master 2500 which is pretty similar in function to the ones pictured. I'll just add that his has a cross slide screw with a long spline at the front that slides in and out of the cross slide handwheel to allow the screw to follow the taper attachment.

    He has both sets of cross slide screws (taper turning attachment and without) and personally prefers to remove the taper attachment when not using it as there nothing to stop a bump on the taper attachment from moving the cross slide in or out. This might just be a Colchester specific thing it may affect all lathes like this. The other small source of inaccuracy for him was the point where the rear of the cross slide screw attaches to the taper attachment, it ideally allows the screw to turn but has no axial slop and he preferred to eliminate that when in daily use.
