    How long you leave them in there for?
    I was worried about that when I cleaned my Mitutoyo mic* But it came out fine.

    *in kero at 50C in a plastic jar in the water bath

    I guess i ran it through 5 or 6 times at 480sec..... 2 or 3 then left to soak overnight then another 3 times or so. thats....about 50min all up....They are spotless though.

    I learnt today that the machined faces above and below the spindle depth stop screw are for tramming the head. Also that the motor/belt assembly can be rotated around the spindle. Amazing what a flip through an pdf manual can turn up.
    I may in fact have known these things but they were long forgotten.

    I was just thinking about this thread Stu. At least your manual is in English......

    I learnt the other day that if you get RE magnets too hot they loose their magnetism......permanently. When i was welding the legs on the dovetail O meter i held the first one in place with a small RE magnet. After welding i went to do the second one......no magnetism left.

    To cut angle iron at 45 degrees, set your saw to 54.7 (ish).

    If you want to cut LH threads on a Chipmaster or cousins, it's an excellent idea to make sure that the dog clutch for disengaging the leadscrew - can't.

    Been there, done that. My solution is an 80/2 size Terry clip which fits neatly behind the dog clutch collar so it cannot move. Clip is stored on the adjacent unthreaded section of the Lead screw when not needed.

    Today I learned that the timber bench I built for my lathe (Seig C6) is not really up to the job. The one I had in Sydney, also timber, seemed to be OK so I need to beef up the one I have.
    Now if I only had a welder, and knew how to weld ...

    I'll agree with that one Geoff I could easily put the Myford on it. As for the big long one wonder how its doing these days.

    Stuart, in case I missed the point of your question, the idea is that it's easier on the saw blade to cut angle iron with the apex up.
    I thought everyone did that.
