Hmmm those front wheels look like a good pivot point

I wouldnt trust it without extending the wheel base and bracing the upright(which are pretty much minimal to start with)

Swarf from carbide facemill cutter and polar fleece blend in so well you have to toss the fleece.....20160628_171755.jpg

You cant brush it out as it has melted the fleece and sticks very well.

Another use for a Scissor lift table - I was welding up a low platform today (700x700x350mm) today and rather than bend over all the time I used a scissor lift table to bring the joint to a comfortable height.

For the last few weeks the SAJ VFD/Hercus has been behaving strangely.
Sometimes it would work OK, and sometimes no matter what frequency I started at over a couple of minutes it would drift up or down to 68Hz.
I'd reset the speed and after a while the same thing would happen.

Reboot and it would work OK for a while and then start doing the same thing.

Because I was "so called too busy" or just being slack I even reverted to using the lathe gears for a few rush jobs

This morning I noticed the frequency would jump unpredictably if I just touched the panel pot and that's when I suspected a dud or dirty pot.
I opened up the panel and did see a fair bit of gunk around the pot most likely from my dirty hands.
Testing with a multimeter showed it to be OK between the two ends of the pot but intermittent open circuit on the centre tap.
A few short sprays with contact cleaner and a twiddle of the knob and all was good.

Thanks for your response, here are a few pictures of the table/storage unit. As you can see I made it up from some left over steel shelving sections I had, once it is all welded up it is quite strong and light enough to wheel around. A thick piece of plywood for the top and some wheels and it is ready to go.

    wow I like that.
Not quite the same but here is how I deal with heavy chucks. I get them to roll the plank. It takes very little effort and no lifting just slide the chuck up to the spindle and line the cam lock up.

I learnt some things are just too weird to imagine...

A month or so back I dropped my digital calipers. I've had them for quite some time and they have been dropped before but this time I thought they had had it - flat on to the concrete. Not so. They had stopped displaying but I gave the battery lid a push and away they went. I did get a replacement organised though as I wondered how long they would last.

Over the last few weeks they have worked but every so often would cut out. Annoying and several times I was going to get the replacement set out but didn't. Sunday they stopped in a major way so in preparation for change over I took the battery out. The light was just at the right angle so I got a good look at the battery.

I hope you can pick it, but the top of the battery is now slightly dished. The impact was enough to force it onto the terminal and distort it so that when it was sitting in the normal position there was intermittent contact. The best bit is that I turned it 90 degrees and everything is now fine. (well, except I have a spare set of calipers sitting there)

Nothing wrong with a spare one, I have 4 in my shed, $19.00 ones from Stratco, only because I keep misplacing them.

I usually find them, when I don't need them, and all ways under a heap of stuff. Damn gremlins, anyone worked out how to keep them out of the shed.

I don't have the type of gremlins you have there, that warrant such extreme measures. These are tiny little ones that hide stuff, not take it, mind you we have a few like that here also.

Discovered yet another use for gauge pins - I have a set of these which rarely get used for checking holes but I use for all sorts of other things. Today I used one to centre a hole in the lathe. A DTI is the tool I would normally use for this but they only have limited range, which can be a problem for odd shaped parts. By using a pin in the hole I could use a clock with bigger range, and by traversing the carriage I could also tell if the pin (and so the part) was parallel to the travel or if I needed to realign it - something a DTI would not tell me.

Today or yesterday I learned that when you replace the wheel motors on your dingo mini loader which means pulling the engine out and other fun stuff, after you put it back together the machine runs much better when you tighten all the internal steel hydraulic lines rather then leaving the very hardest to get to one loose.
