I learnt that I don't really need an overhead gantry crane to move stuff around, this one lifts up to 1.5m and rated at 350kg, Nicely built and easy to use. Just slide on and off the trolley. I find it harder and harder to lift things like rotary tables and vises. Not as young I guess.

Guess who read the Total Tools cattledog? And they are much cheaper than h&f and appear the same.

Ray, that rotary table looks about 300mm in diameter, I doubt that you'd float away anytime soon if you were carrying it yourself. The scissor lift table looks great BTW.

I didn't see the Total Tools catalog, but I see that they are moving into the Blackwoods building? I never even knew Blackwoods were closing...

Anyway I got mine on ebay, NEW 350kg Hydraulic Scissor Lifter Table Cart With 1500 MM Lift Height | eBay

Works out to about the same price as Total Tools after you factor in the freight cost. After closer look at the pictures, I'd say they are the same manufacturer, different colour scissors and wheels, otherwise it's the same unit.

    Rob,

I can't even lift that RT anymore, but I can slide it, after adjusting the trolley height. So It's no longer a luxury, it's become essential.

BTW It's 370mm (14' 1/2") so you were pretty close.

    Hi Ray,
Nice set up for handling your Meca PD, look's like it is the big brother to my 250. My one weighs around 80kg your one would have to be around 120kg, no way you would be wanting to lift that by hand. The storage and lifting of my rotary table and dividing head in my limited size workshop was a problem, so I built a split level mobile workbench with a lift up top and made an extended boom for my engine crane which solved both issues.

Co-incidence for the the supply of the lift. Looks handy. I have thought of getting one also for the same reasons.

I also did not know about Blackwoods closing. They did not seem to carry much stock for such a large building. Everything I have wanted from there had to be ordered in. At least it was overnight; but meant 2 trips. Each time I went in I was the only customer and the staff were just sitting around. Not in much of a hurry either. Don't know where they will get another cushey job like that.

Not so good with lathe chucks tho. I guess I will stick with the overhead gantry. With the state of my shed floor, I would finish up with it lying on its back and me on top.

On the other hand it will be fantastic for a huge range of uses. A worktable with adjustable height that can be moved anywhere (that there is a flat firm surface).

Yes, exactly. I have 4 small work tables approx 1200 x 750 on castors that I use all the time. They're all the same height so can be assembled into a long skinny work bench if needed. However, no height adjustment. I want to be able to slide hevy things like rotary tables, big milling vises etc off of the pallet rack storage onto a table for transport.

I also have a 'person lifter' - a scaled down engine crane thing good to lift 120 kg. I use that to position stuff on the mill tables etc. Lower profile legs than a typical engine crane so can fit under more things.

I've had its little brother for a couple of years. I feel vertically challenged now

They are great, with 6 odd steps to put something down very gently.

    Hi Kryn,
Thanks for your response, here are a few pictures of the table/storage unit. As you can see I made it up from some left over steel shelving sections I had, once it is all welded up it is quite strong and light enough to wheel around. A thick piece of plywood for the top and some wheels and it is ready to go.

Thanks for that Bob, great idea, would you mind if I copied it. With the extended boom on your engine crane, is it easily converted back to its original form to lift a motor? Any chance of a pic of your mod and details, please.

    Hi Kryn,
If any of my ideas are of any use to you, you are welcome to them, thanks for asking. When I looked at adding an extension to my engine lifter I made sure that my changes did not effect the original design at all. As the pictures show the extra tube is a separate part, I have done a quick sketch of it, the dimensions shown allow it to fold up taking very little extra floor space which I have not much of. No holes need to be drilled in the original lifter and you can see I have used all of the original pins and hook assembly.

Any idea on how much can it lift at full extension before it topples over Bob?

    Hi Kryn,
I have only lifted my rotary table which I believe weighs around 80 kg, I have a universal dividing head with a four inch chuck on it which is a bit heavier, it handles these easily. If I had anything that weighed around 100kg that needed the extension I would put some counterweight on the rear of the lifter. At the end of the black tube it is rated at 500kg.
