Fascinating stuff Andre. The Shuttle turbo pump at 4.00 is something to behold. A pump that can drain an Olympic size pool in 59 seconds.!

Well picked up Stuart. He only modified it. Even then it was done after some industrial espionage.

I had a look at some other movies in that series: hand tools and power tools. Just as unteresting....
    Thanks Andre.

they didnt say he invented the steam engine

It said, he "created a steam engine dependable enough to power" etc etc

He didn't do that either, he invented the external condenser which improved the efficiency of the current steam engines by about 400%. Early on at least he was paid by how much fuel was saved.

At least thats how I remember the book I read about him 20ish years ago.

Not really, the Newcomen engine was working just fine before Watt(and Boulten) arrived.
I think you'll find that link is a mix of times, dates and machines.
I think Watts early engines were single acting atmospheric engines just like the Newcomen.
Even when he went to double acting engines later, I'm not sure this is correct "It also allowed for the use of steam pressure to move the piston in both directions"
The steam pressures used but Watt were very low. I think it was more a case of the vacuum on one side of the piston helping to fill the other side with steam.

I dont have the time today to go looking up the dates
And as always I could have most of that back to front.
