Default Tool storage tip of the day...

While being dragged through Ikea recently I saw this neat CD storage device for $10.

    INREDA CD rack - IKEA

I bought one...now I'll have to go back for a couple more. They make ideal drawer liners for storing taps, lathe tools, end mills and larger drills. The slots are 14.5 mm wide, but they are rubber, so you can put a 3/4" or 18mm tool in any slot.

Great for keeping cutting edges nice, and for organising by size.

Hmmm - this idea I like. At the moment I keep my endmills in the little square plastic sleeves they come in, and they're bunched by type. Economical on space (you can stack them in the drawer), but not great for just grabbing the one you want straight away.

    Hi GQ,

Thanks for the tip, I just finished re-organizing taps into plastic boxes, yours is a better solution... I think I'll start again... and priced to suit the discerning buyer..

    Nice one.

Aren't CDs those things you rip to iTunes then store in a box, never to be seen again?

The rubber holder looks good though Greg. I'll drop in to Ikea on the way home from work and grab one.
