Rolling Tailstock Arbor
Without hijacking another thread thats currently talking about live centres, I am trying to source a Rolling tailstock Arbor on an MT3 taper with a J33 fitting - without too much success.
Arceuro sell something similar.....http://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/Centres theirs uses a MT2/B16 and not suitable for my purposes..........I'd prefer not to use MT adapter sleeves or turn down the B16 if I can avoid it.......but the principal is what I'm after
Would be grateful if anyone could point me in the direction if they know where I can source one or perhaps offer suggestions for something similar that I could try and butcher......................thanks for any help....Lee

G'Day,
While I have no idea of what you are trying to hold, another possibility is a bearing held in a 3 jaw tailstock chuck, I use this setup occasionally when skimming commutators.

Thanks Martin,
What you made is probably a bit large for my purpose but thanks anyway - I like the idea and wish I'd had it when I did my last commutator......
My intention is to make various pilots ranging in size from 0.5cm up which can be press mounted in a rolling arbor so that I can use them to cut thin copper tubing against without deformation of the tube....it's a similar idea to outside neck turning on cartridges but using a rolling arbor as the connection to mount the pilots in the tailstock with the drive in the headstock.......
I think there may be too much TIR on a 3 jaw drill chuck and if I go that way, then I would prefer to find (make??) something with a standard fitting such as the JT33 rather than the B16 shown - I'm not familiar with that at all........but a centrally mounted bearing like yours could work...thanks for the idea...........Lee.

Another thought,
How would a live centre with interchangeable mandrel inserts go ? , the one in the photo runs in needle roller bearings and has negligible runout.

Thanks Martin, that would certainly solve the problem.....interchangeable mandrels would be the way to go, I'd imagine a push in fit as most of the force/pressure applied would be side force as distinct from lateral..........did you knock that one up or is it a commercial one?.......Lee

G'Day Lee,
Yes, I did make the one in the photo, but they are available commercially, it wouldn't be too much of a drama to to make up mandrels as required.

Martin
