Hi David, and welcome to a TOP FORUM.
If I could ask a favour please, and that is to change your location from Australia to a Town or Suburb and State/City. The reason being that a lot of members give their time willingly on here and for them to chase you for a location if you're wanting to get a certain piece of material, it makes it very difficult. We could suggest a place in Brisbane for example onlt to find out you live in Broome.
The reason I ask for Suburb and State/city is that some Suburbs are in multiple cities.
Hope you see the reasoning behind my request.
    Regards,
    Kryn

My location is "Melbourne, Australia" and has been since I joined... unless you're referring to the other David.

Hi im setting up a qualos as well and would like to get some info if possible please, a link to the history is my hope so i can date the lathe and find things like colour and model etc. I will restore in time as I am finishing off an unknown small milling machine and pedestal drill at the moment, thanks Brett.

I have read the info on uklathes but it doesn't get very indepth with models or years only a company history and a lot about the junior . I was hoping for a way of dating and the colour that it should be so I can paint it. I also have a lot of attachments that I cannot identify and wasn't sure they are qualos

As mentioned, attached here are the period sales literature Mitutoyo Qualos send me in PDF format. Again I acknowledge their kind permission to reproduce it here.

I am a novice myself so will have to let someone else on the forum answer your questions on regarding headstock spindle runout correcting. Would imagine the bearings would very seldom need to be adjusted however. Sounds like a heavy hand was used in any event on any previous adjustment.

I have not looked at my lathe bearings but from my truck restoration experience old oil is almost as bad for bearings as no oil. The acids that form in 70 year old oil can severely pit balls, needles and races.

All the best enjoyment with your Qualos lathe.

As an aside: I finally got to see my neighbor a few doors away Qualos lathe. He though it was a Junior but it is in fact the same 5-1/4" x 33" model as mine. In excellent condition too from an old tech school and about 100 serial numbers lower than mine. What are the chances that two people only a few metres away have the same vintage lathes in their garages!

    Cheers,

    Jacques
