U tube favourites
Maybe we can post our favourite u tube videos.. I've seen quite a few informative ones on lathe and Mill Drill use . One chap went through the entire process of making a involute gear cutter , using his lathe and mill. Another had made a CNC setup using stepper motors on his Mill Drill. Can somebody start it off with a few links ? There are many to choose from . Mike

I like it a lot. Something I've been thinking about too. RC, rather than clutter this thread up with discussion, how about posting this in Latest Projects, or just on its own so we can interrogate you?

Engines
Greetings chaps seeing the big steam engine was a hoot. It brought back memories of the Steam Tug Wattle, The ex Corvette RIP an the Sydney Ferry the South Steyne. The Wattle has a Compound 13 inch HP and a 31 inch LP and is laid up in Melbourne having Hull repairs. The RIP is now outside Whyalla in SA it has two triple expansion engines and last but not least the South Steyne has a 4 cylinder Triple Expansion Engine which has a crankshaft which is balanced on the Shlick and Tweedy system. I was privileged to crew in the engine room of all three of these vessels. Yours 4-6-4

It looks bulky on the compound, I have also seen a one mounted on a tailstock over on PM somewhere, I thought that was a good idea that would be a big help.
That power feed in the video is not going to last long going from one direction to the other without returning it to the centre position and waiting for it to stop. It is one of the main things they point out in the manual.
It also wont last 2 seconds if you if the compound hits the end of it's travel, because it has no micro limit switches.
Stuart has had a set up for a while now, I tried it years ago but didn't really like it, as I found it awkward.
I have a lot of old Makita battery drills here and was thinking of using just the motor and gear box mounted onto the compound onto a gear mounted behind the compound hand wheel. It wouldn't take up much room and nothing much goes on the compound other than a mag base, which would still fit anyway.
