Just a few things I have made with Old files.

Files are detempered in a kitchen oven or a BBQ and then the teeth are ground away.
Shaping is with a water cooled thin kerf cutting blade on an old 8" table saw dedicated for use with those blades.

Nice work Bob (esp the shoulder plane)! Is it predominantly River Gum? Good to see I'm not the only one who has a thing for copper ferrules - is that an aesthetic choice for you or are there practical reasons behind it?

Had to have a giggle at the BBQed files.

Cheers FF, the plane is curly jarrah, one of the few bits of timber I have paid for in the last 6 years. I used the small amount of leftover to make the marking knives in the other post.

Copper ferrules are just bits cut from copper water pipe fittings I have in my scraps box.

RE: BBQ files: complements my dishwasher washed chain saw motor parts.

    It does indeed need pictures

I have been scouring the net for plans/diagrams for wooden handles for files...not much out there...that I can find anyways, so thought I'd search here...not much in this thread either

But this is what I made yesterday...
    20180903_144246[1].jpg
(have left the bit of timber in front of ferrule so that I have a centre mark created by spur for drilling hole for tang)

just need to take the homemade woodlathe outside to make up a dozen or so more...makes too much mess inside the shed.

Has anyone got some plans for wooden handles for files????

Wow Eskimo, digging up a 6 year old thread. The design of file handles is a personal choice like handles for wood turning chisels. I make my own just like yours, I like them about 150mm long a bit thicker than "standard" and I try and use a really curly eucalyptus blank to resist splitting.
I have a real bitch about lathe files at present, but I may start another thread.

well, I was looking for threads on file handles and this is all that really came up...it has some references to handles but nothing significant

The one I made above is 150 x 32dia and 20dia at the smaller sections. But these dont look right on a small file, disproportionate...but what is more important?...looks, or how it feels in the hand when filing?...might make some slightly smaller and see how the look and feel on a small file...and then make a decision

Nice. Might make some on the metal lathe. I've got stacks of exotic timber offcuts.
