I had my digital height gauge calibrated and Mitutoyo only charged me $190 but i had to pay a fair bit to ship it. There is a lot more work in a set of jo-blocks though

Have you had any experience in having gauge blocks calibrated in Australia? I have.

Turns out it's not going to cost a cent. We do it all in house and the GM said he's happy to arrange calibration training for me

That's good to hear. you will gain an appreciation of the amount of labor involved in calibrating gauge blocks.

Scored a nice set of wavy parallels today, haven't been able to find out much about the brand though - all I can find with that name is electronics wire processing machinery. Couple of small spots of surface rust here and there, but the ground edges look like they haven't touched anything other than the box they came in.

Invaluable when you need them. You can also use them as springs to keep conventional parallels in place.

Thanks for the Pic Harry, like the idea of the tray on the top for tools and holding the grinders.
Only thing missing is a rack for the clamps.

Took me a moment to spot it, but using a sack truck as the bottle holder as well as rear wheels is a neat trick. For the amount that those things are available for I doubt you could get just the wheels separately for the price.

I made that tray removable to empty the build up of crap out of it, the sack truck actually tilts to make putting the bottle on easy... those G's are not easy to lift!

Great score, won’t find a better B&F head. They are a bitch new though , very tight. I had a new one like that with the tool holders still wrapped. I sold it about 18yrs ago for $3k !!! Bloke knew the quality and wanted it . The carbide supplied is super hard .

Well after many months wait due to special order, i took possession of my surface plate!

Now im in the process of a big cleanup and re-organising space to make room for it.

Its a graded 00 and it came with the "usual" calibration certificate but i would find the calibration a bit more believable if it was signed and both the plate and certificate actually had a serial no.

Anyway, im sure it will be fine for my needs.

Certainly. The plate in question is 1000x630x150 Grade 00.

I bought it from ETS (Engineering Tooling Supplies) in QLD. It cost me approx. $1050 + $150 delivery (incl GST) to Toll/Ipec depot in Rowville Victoria. At approx. $1200 It was probably the best price I could find for a plate of that size and grade.

Also, they do not stock that particular size, mainly smaller sizes so it was a special order. I had to pay 40% upfront and then wait 4 months for their next container shipment from China but I was not in any hurry anyway.

Edit: Also, the plate does not have any markings. This raises a couple of questions, how do you know if that particular calibration certificate corresponds to that plate AND, how do you know the orientation of the plate so as to take advantage of the calibration map. That calibration map can go 2 ways, so if you wanted to avoid the 2 diagonal high points, how would you know which points are high?

Do others here with plates have markings on their plates to show orientation to the calibration map?
