An interesting website for Knots.
Hi All, I came across this site after receiving an e-mail from Machinists Workshop Magazine with a readers tip. The tip included this link, so I had a quick look and found it most interesting and well done. If you don't have much knowledge and experience with choosing and tying knots, there is good info here. Cheers,
Rob.

I remember I was on a course for truck driving and they allow 14 hours to do it. I knew the load restraint was coming up so I ask the grandfather to refresh me and make sure I was doing it right, as he worked on ship all his life and knew all the knots.
I turned up this one day went for a drive with the instructor and he said to pull over and we will do the load restraint part of the test. I tied my knot just like the picture earlier and in the book and he failed me, because it was not the way he liked. I argued with him but his decision was final.
In the end I found out they where getting paid by hour for us and if we finished early they would loose out.
I could have finished in 9 hours, but he kept bringing me back for things like checking engine oil where the other guys falling behind didn't have to, so I got it done in 11 hours.
Dave.

I was doing a job for my sister and BIL. We needed some material so went to his usual hardware store to pick it up. He had a 1 ton Japanese truck because he used it in his courier business. We loaded up and I asked for a rope to tie down the load.
"Oh I don't use rope.... because I can't tie knots!" he says. He then produces a 30mm wide strap and ratchet. "Oh, I use these all the time" he says. I asked what he used for heavy pallet sized loads and he said ....."just a couple of these" pointing to the 30mm straps.
I was horrified just thinking about what could go wrong in an emergency and how a heavy load could turn into a BIG HEAVY PROJECTILEJust do it!
Kind regards Rod

You would think he could at least carry a couple of 2000kg 50mm straps.
The mate goes off about this all the time. They (Semi's) get pulled into the weigh bridge and picked on all the time, where cars with trailers and small trucks pass him all day long with insecure loads, with anything from bail twin holding it in place.
I am the type that over does a load with to many, but I have never had something fall off.
