    Hi Peter,

    See:
    http://www.woodworkforums.com/f65/su...ate-oz-119159/

Note that the Advance spindle is 1"x10 TPI BSF thread, which has a 55 degree thread angle and Whitworth thread form. Some American sources advertise 1"x10 backplates, but these are almost certain to have the 60 degree unified thread form thread, so would probably not be a satisfactory fit on the Advance spindle. As mentioned in the previous thread 1"x10 BSF used to be a common spindle nose thread on wood lathes sold here, so you might find something suitable for a backplate at a woodworking tool supplier. Failing that, your best bet is probably to have one with the correct BSF thread form made.

    Frank.

Back when I had my Advance Lathe I made my own backplate.
I got a 1" BSF nut, welded a suitable piece of plate onto it then turned and faced it on the lathe. The tricky bit is drilling the holes to mount the chuck correctly. It can be done, with a little bit of care.
