Are micrometers worth it
A mate of mine said he has a used set of mitotoyo micrometers in the shed. they are in the original box. they range in size from 0-150mm and come with the standards to reset them aswell. he wants $120 for them is this worth it.

Yep, thats under the price of Chinese ones and will be a lot more accurate as long as they have been looked after.

is there any way to tell their condition.as they seem to be there the ratchets work and they have minimal scratches.

Depends on the condition. If they are a complete set in good condition then $120 would be a good price.
Here is a set from eBay of one of the models Mitutoyo make for 3 times the price.

Andre, the term "a steal" comes to mind.
You could get a block of known size, say a 1 2 3 block to check the accuracy.
What type of micrometer are they? Outside, inside or depth?Pat

If they look like they have been looked after is probably a good sign, also check the anvil faces. Sometimes the ratchets or the threads get gummed up from sitting for years and.will only need a clean

If he is a mate he should hold them for you, but if he is after quick cash maybe borrow the money and offer him a bit less.

I agree with Pat they are a 'STEAL' at that price, that is providing they have been well looked after. If they are in Good Nic, You would have to be MAD if You didn't Buy them.
