You got a good deal their. I plan on making a lathe stand with all draws as it saves the bending.

I found an old electrical cabinet and fitted that out. The QCTP holders are sitting on some pieces of Al angle. I plan to put a shelf below to cope with some of the bigger items

    Hi Michael,
Great idea. I have a cabinet pretty much the same as that, a little smaller maybe. I might just steal a few of those ideas.

Azzrock, The three chuck keys are for a 3 jaw, 4 jaw (2x) and spindle camlock. I fitted extensions to some of the keys because I couldn't get a full 360 turn next to the headstock otherwise.

The lathe is a 1957 CVA model 1A series 3 toolmaker's lathe (12x30). Bought a couple of years back as a non functioning item it's turned into a very nice lathe to use.

Larger diameters 65mm up and under 600/700 in length I stand vertical, longer than this I lay down.
Smaller diameters I just lay down.

I have a reasonable amount of material on hand for what I do rangeing in size from 5mm upto 150mm in High Tensile,1020,Hollow Bar and Cast Iron most of these lengths are between 50mm long upto 800mm long with the average around 400mm,there is also a smaller quantity of Aluminium,Brass and Bronze in shorter lengths, then I have a few 300mm square x 25mm thick plates and a few pieces of 250mm and 300mm diameter chunks of solid bar around 60 to 200 mm long.

Mine is in the shed. Most of it that is. The stuff that is not in the shed is somewhere else. That about covers it at this point. I don't seperate machining stock from other stock. I have a huge mess in one corner of my implement shed of mostly mild steel salvage of every shape size amd colour. Some is still leaning against the wall where it started.

Unfortunately a family of rabbits decided to build a city under the dirt floor. This city collapsed then with the rain this year filled up with water and them SWMBO's dog decided to explore the rabbit situation. Needs work.

Somewhere under this mess is a large drive shaft setup for a 32 volt generator which is long gone. The shaft, mounts, bearings and pulleys are all that is left. The shaft is about 35mm diam and about 1200mm long. I guess that would be classed as machining stock now?

    HI,
I've just been going through this Thread to see if there were any ideas on Faceplate Storage. I spotted Michael G's lathe is this it Michael ?. The CVA in the Picture is a 1956 model and is sourced from here Page Title . Gee it has a lot of Levers on it.

Same model lathe (although a year younger) but that's not mine. That page was one that contributed to me wanting to chase one though.
I did post a thread for the more curious if you want a few more pictures - http://www.woodworkforums.com/f65/bi...-lathe-142383/

The levers aren't all that bad. The really nice one is the one at spindle height in the middle of the headstock. That's the single tooth dog clutch that enables left and right hand threads without disengaging the half nuts. Because of that one I've started threading up to shoulders without the run out groove...

interesting michael. so if were going to talk about levers we like. this isn't based on functionality like your favourite lever and in fact my favourite lever isn't even a lever its a dial or hand wheel.. the lower one at the head stock end of your lathe. i like the angle and the position.. what's it for.
