Looks like your getting well organized there Bob,
I meant to say earlier that I like the wall lining you have in the shop.

Thanks Dave. I was only planning to do one corner in the miniorb but then I was liking it so much I ended up doing half the shed in the stuff. The rest I did in Gyprock, I should have done it all in miniorb.

BETTER TO HAVE TOOLS YOU DON'T NEED THAN TO NEED TOOLS YOU DON'T HAVE

    Default nice and simple

hi i have found these hose clamps handy for easy acces storage. they mount on a rail and can be moved along the rail to different positions.
also the magnetic knife holders can be useful.

I must have missed this post.
I use some filing cabinets as well. I have just put one under the lathe to store my chucks.

Azzrock, do you find swarf sticks to your tools after being stored on the magnet? That would be annoying.

bryan you right about that. some tools are obviously more affected my magnatism. than others. i think my slack house keeping is half to blame.

Here is an indication of my setup.

    Attachment 179672
My cupboard for storing everything except the chucks. It is currently an open plan design.

    Attachment 179673
This empty space is where it is going.

    Attachment 179674
This is where the chucks and face plate will be stored on pegs attached to wall.

    Attachment 179675
This is the winch and girder that will be used to move chucks from lathe to storage when I am too old and cripple to lift them. It can also be used to fit heavy stuff into the lathe.

The cupboard, lathe and chuck storage are all in a row at end of main shed. The tools leaning against the wall on left of pic of number 2 are actually in a lean-to extension used for general storage. The board extending into the shed is a rack for garden tools which has to be removed to fit cupboard in.

    Attachment 179678
I currently store tools on 2 shelves shown above the lathe and other stuff all over the place as can be seen.

    Hi Dean, thanks for sharing.
Looks like you have a nice spot their with the few horses and that.

That cupboard looks open plan at the moment.
The winch is a good idea, I would be lost without my crane now I have it up. It saves the back so much and for things like putting the vice on the mill I can make sure underneath the vice is clean while hanging.
I am making some lifting hooks/brackets at the moment for the chucks and will post them up when I am finished.
That lathe is a nice solid built one, and should serve you for ever.

How did you go with getting onto the guy at Nuttall? I bought my Douglas shaper off him and he didn't seem energetic about the business, but when I asked him the price of 1 rusty gear their on the shelf it was $200.
The shop isn't much and only has a few machines like a older Pro track CNC mill, a manual vertical slotter, and a manual lathe etc. He was given the business of his uncle who went back to teaching in Queensland so he told me.

On thing I would suggest is a rubber/plastic mat or some timber slats (duck boards) made up in front of the lathe to stand on.

We have a very nice spot here, and a long way from neighbours so noise is not a problem.

Tonight I fitted the shelf supports to the cupboard. The frame started as a lock box for a ute. I had to take out the hole for the wheel arch. The frame is exactly how it was other than that and only the centre supports are in the right place for shelves. It will have 6 roughly equal height shelves. I now need to fit adjustable feet to account for the very uneven floor, fit pine slat shelves from pallets, then fit the skin and doors back on. It has 2 doors with locks!

The winch is not my idea of a perfect design but I already had it available. I would prefer a chain lever type but don't have the money to buy one at this stage.

I sent an email to the nuttall guy. Still waiting for a reply. That was about 9 - 12 months ago.

I will get something for the floor eventually. Not a priority at the moment but as I do suffer from problems with my feet it will happen. Right now I rarely have time to stand still long enough to get sore feet. I do a lot of miles at work on concrete so that adds to the problem, or causes it more likely. I work in a winery that has evolved over the years to become very long and narrow.
