Waterslide decals
Attention AB and others.
About 12 months ago, a kind member of this forum, gave me a couple of A4 size sheets of waterslide transfer medium.
This member was a chap who had purchased a Hercus 260 lathe, and for some reason, a cast iron panel had warped. He corrected the warp with the judicial application of clamps, increasing the pressure daily until the panel was flat enough. I mention this in the hope that the member will recognise the thread, and respond here by telling us where the waterslide paper came from.
I haven't used my waterslide paper yet, although the process is simple.
1. Transfer the image onto the waterslide paper with say an inkjet printer.
2. Cut the image out and let the ink dry.
3. Emerse in cold water.
4. Position the image, and slide off the backing to reveal a sticky back.
5. Apply to machinery part, coffee cup, or whatever.
6. Slide the image to it's final position, and let dry.
7. Apply a couple of coats of clear lacquer and AB is your uncle.
I reckon it would be prudent to coat the face of the transfer, before immersion in water just in case the ink runs. Can't see a problem with technique change.

Reckon I've tracked down the member who supplied the waterslide paper. kwijio99.
In a much earlier post, he had this to say.
G'day Ken,
My missus bought some of this paper and it seems to work briliantly.
Just print your artwork on your inkjet printer, cut it to size and it works just like the old waterslide transfers.
She bought the paper from the US as it worked out a lot cheaper. I think she got fifty sheets for around US$25 delivered. I can check the details if you like.
Cheers,
Greg.
In a review, that turned out to be $100 for 50 sheets, $2 a sheet.

Hey There,
you could also try www.decalpaper.com.au they have all different types of Paper, for Ink-Jet and othertypes of printers,
I use Ink-Jet stuff and they suggest you print the image, let it dry (1 Day) and then spray with clear Acrylic, leave for a day or so, then wet it and stick it onto whatever you are decaling. Works for my cast Braid pens.

My sisters partner is a signwriter, I have watched him work in his shed and when he applies stickers he puts dishwashing liquid in water on where the sticker is to go, then puts the sticker on and moves it about till in position...
Then he just scrapes it to make sure it is flat and lets it dry..

Ken,
When you get around to making your transfers, how about running off an extra two for me? I'm not greedy, a couple will do. I only need them for the ARL headstock and the vertical head for the O mill.
I will pay you.

Yeh, the price quoted was through H&F.
No, that's not true.

Hercus decal
This is the image I have, it's still a bit rough around the edges.
The image size is 73mm x 27.8mm. As mentioned in an earlier post, I'm not sure how true the colours are. If you have a better image, please post it.

G'day Ken,
Yep it was me that gave you the transfer paper, sorry about the tardy reply but I've been working like a Baghdad brickie the last week or so and haven't had a chance to get on the forum.
I will check with the cook again as to where she got the paper, I know it's available from various supplers here in Melbourne but she got it from the US as it worked out to be much cheaper, and that was before the US dollar tanked so it probably works out better again these days.
I will go harass her now and she if she remembers and get back to you ASAP.
Cheers,
Greg.
