Arboga
While we are all waiting for Ken's photos of his fabled mill, I thought that I would whet the collective appetite with some photos I took several years ago. I thought at the time that these Swedish creations were things of beauty. The little radial drill is exquisite.

Hi AB,
Struth, I had no idea Arboga made such a heavy duty unit. It makes my "little" mill/drill look like a miniature.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll get some snaps if I can track down where my camera memory card has disappeared to. Strange that the same card fits my Nikon, and my son's camera. mmmmm.
Do you know which models are depicted above, would like to see if Tony has more info on his web site.

Blurred
Hello Ken,
I zoomed in on the name plates and I can't make out the model numbers. The photos were taken in 2003 with a Canon PowerShot A70, a low resolution brick by today's standards. When I'm next out at the workshop where they reside, I'll take my Nikon, snap a few more photos and let you know the model numbers.
Bob.

Hi Bob,
While you are talking about camera's
Your pictures always look perfect, maybe you could do a write-up one day for the rest of us, on how to take good quality pictures of machinery. How do you get the lighting without reflections everywhere..
Regards
Ray

Ken,
These photos are of an Arboga U2508 that was on German Ebay a while back. Nice.

I have not seen one of these mills in person, but hearing all the talk and looking at the pictures I don't see what fuss is about. To me they don't look to be that rigid and more like a round column mill drill. It also looks like they would loose position when raising and lowering the head like a mill drill.

Hi Dave,
I was like you, being shown an Arboga was a ho hum event. In my opinion, not worth a second look.
However, when given the opportunity of actually owning one, my opinion quickly changed. At that time I was in the market for something like a Sieg Super X3 mill. It quickly became apparent that the Sieg was lacking, particularly in rigidity. Lots and lots of Sieg mods point to deficiencies by unhappy owners.
The Arboga EM825, apart from it's looks, took on more appeal, the more I studied it. It was the right size, and used fair dinkum tooling, available at the local milk bar, so to speak. Lots of mills I looked at had the round column, and like you, couldn't see the sense when everything got out of wack when the table was raised or lowered.
The Arboga also has a round column, but the table when raised or lowered, is kept in perfect position by a rear mounted rack. Very clever.
It's really a personal thing, and for me a challenge to renew the life of a once famous machine. It's in the same league as Deckel, an acquired taste.
I'm sure others will agree, however your comments are valid.

"It's in the same league as Deckel, an acquired taste".
Nothing acquired about it for me Ken. Definitely love at first sight!
