Default Indexable End Mills vs Indexable Face Mills

Getting together an order for CDCO and part of that will be some R8 tooling.

Need some advice regarding end mills vs face mills and the various angles that are available.

CDCO have both mills that fit on to an R8 arbor and mills that are incorporated with the R8 arbor. Pros and cons.

What is the advantage of a 90deg face mill over a 75deg face mill.

I have attached the 4 different mills I am talking about as screen dumps as you can't link directly to them on CDCO.

Basically if you will be removing material where there is no Shoulder or Edge involved the Angled cutters will be fine.

If you are working to a Shoulder or Edge the 90 degree cutters would be the ones to use.

The Angled cutters would be able to take a heavier cut.

Not very much difference between the two 90 degree cutters, only that you would need to take less passes with the larger.

With the R8 shanked cutters you would not need to purchase a seperate mounting Arbor.

Pipe Clay has pretty much covered it all.

So is the 75deg rake and 15 deg lead really the same thing expressed differently, ie 75+15 = 90deg?

What is the advantage, perceived or otherwise, of the fixed arbor vs the replaceable one?

If I bought 1 each of the first 2 (fixed arbor) mills I would have covered it then?

    Hi Fred,
The only benefit would be to use the arbours on different tools or if you had a crash or something happened to one of the face mills you wouldn't be throwing away the lot, you could use the arbour for something else.
Those 2 you picked should do you, and looking at the prices it looks to be cheaper to buy the integrated ones anyway.
