    Yes

    When you double click READ what is in the box

    It asks if you want to do this every time...ie either "save" or "open"..."check" that box

    Hi Ken, I made a bunch of these some years ago just down the road from you.Suggest the following;

    Make the ends with mitres between the legs and rail, then butt weld the stringers between the ends, instead of mitering the rails and stringers and butt welding the legs. Primary difference is that it is easier to square each end and then the whole structure that way.

    The other change would be to set the timber into the frame so that it is flush with the surface, and mount on predrilled 25 x 5 SS strips. This makes the 38mm tube cross braces redundant. Drilling clearance holes in the bottom of the tube and fixing holes in the top is a major issue as kids poking a digit into the clearance holes can break or amputate a digit fairly easily if it becomes trapped. It is also a hassle to debur the outside of the clearance holes and near impossible to debur the inside where the worst burrs would be. Plugging the clearance holes is a tempory measure, and the digits likely to get snagged in the holes are also likely to remove the plugs to facilitate investigation.

    I would suggest a strip welded to each end rail, and additional strips at a maximum 900mm spacing, i.e 3 strips for 1800 length, 4 for 1800 to 2700mm. If this would drop a strip where you want the brolly support hole, use two strips located about 70mm either side of the brolly hole centre.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Malb,

    I too thought about large holes in the underside of the framework. You're correct about little fingers getting caught, I was thinking more about Redback spiders making a home inside.

    I've noted all your other comments, many thanks.

    I might redesign the setting so that the timber slats sit inside the frame. Reckon it would look cleaner, and give protection to the edges and ends of the timber.

    Malb, who was the manufacturer you referred to?

    Ken

    Steel Trends - Vernon Ave and then Korong Rd.

    Through holes in the tubes can be rough on clothes and unclothed limbs as well. There is also a lot less end grain splinter potential with inset slats.
