Hi guys, new member here. I actually work for bolt.com.au (I developed the website) and have been a technical advisor here for a few years. I noticed a lot of links from this forum so I thought I'd join up and offer assistance on threads. I'm not here to spam!
Unfortunately high tensile threaded rod under 10mm is VERY expensive, I have no idea why. Sometimes I think the suppliers just don't like making it.
As mentioned above a set screw is your best option.

Hi Luke, I find a lot of things bolt manufacturers do very strange...
An example being 3/8 W bolts being easy to find (zinc plated), but 3/8W in gal are not available but 1/2W in gal is easily available..
I tried to find a 9mm metric bolt to replace a broken bolt off a Kubota motor and the local bolt dealer said they don;t make them.... Yet when I required 9/16 high tensile bolts for the head of a Case tractor they were an off the shelf item...
I found it very strange how somethings are made and other things are not...

9mm bolts are very hard to find. Generally you have to go genuine.
It was back in about 2002 that most bolt manufacturers started dropping imperial galv bolts from their range. Frustrating I know. However the brand Exafast has some imperial galv bolts in their range now, which is good. I think it was just due to slow sales.
They certainly do some odd things... Sorry, didn't mean to derail!

Hi Luke, welcome to the forum
Good to have someone on here that knows the in and outs of nuts and bolts.
Also, I find bolt.com an easy to navigate website, keep up the good work.
Dave
