Default WANTED: Sunshine Coast Volunteer to check out some machinery

Some of you may have seen these machines ( Lathe , Milling machine and Shaper) on eBay, and thought the prices a bit over the top, and not bothered looking into them. The vendor, Hayley, is settling a deceased estate, and has given me permission to request a member who is able to, to contact her to arrange a suitable time for you both to inspect the machines, and identify them with specific model numbers, specifications, likely condition etc., in other words to provide her with the info she needs to accurately describe them, and to give her some advice on their likely range of prices she could expect to get for them. She has had a retired business owner who had an engineering business I understand, come and have a look, but the values he gave seem way over the top from what I can see in the photos on the eBay listings. As I live in Tasmania, it is too far for me to help her out, and even though I could have been interested in the shaper, if it had all the major parts, it is really too far away to be practical for me.
I have no connection to Hayley, but hopefully someone who is nearby to her, will be able to help out give her (and us) the good oil on the situation. I'm sure the other members will be interested to see just what it is that she has, and what sort of condition it is actually in. Her contact details are within the eBay listings, and the machines are just near the "Ettamooga Pub" (not too sure of the right spelling there). Thanks in advance,
    Ropetangler.

Looks like those machines have been left out in the weather for some time and there is a few years of work there to bring them back to working condition .
The mill by its ID tag is of Indian manufacture and may be not worth the effort.
All of the machines are fairly old and parts would be non existent for them. Some one who has lots of spare time and know how may be able to refurbish them though .
The Macson lathe is interesting in that it has a tee slotted bed on top of the saddle.

I sent a message about the shaper just after it was just listed on ebay a few weeks ago for $3500. I am sure it was a bloke that answered me, and he also thanked me for the help.
Amongst other things, I let him know that this type of shaper usually went anywhere from $300 to $1500 on ebay. They are in a crane yard, so I sugested he put that in the add as well.

I think the best thing to do is to find out the scrap price in weight for these machines then list them at that, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

i thought most of the Macson lathes had T slots on the aprons as well as most large lathes made at that time also i they have the "gap" off the bed with the accessories listed with the lathe i think they have all the tooling for the shaper and mill with it to

hey Dave where can i find a shaper for $300

I bought my 24inch Alba off ebay in March for $300.
    http://www.woodworkforums.com/f65/ne...shaper-115314/
and also my Douglas 10 1/2 inch (which can be seen in the above link) for $450 with half of machine in spares last year.
They are around it just takes time and persistence.
A week before I bought the Alba I nearly bought another 24 inch one for a $1000, but it was a nicer machine with a large vice.

    Hi All,
new_guy90 thanks for the offer to help her, I think that she will appreciate any advice on what the stuff is really likely to bring at auction, what the specs for the machines are, and if you are able to fire them up and run them, to see how they go (depending on their condition of course) that would be icing on the cake. It seems to me from distant Tasmania, that she was given inflated values for these machines, but I can only go on the photos, but the prices seemed way too high and I don't think that her advisor did her any favours, but that's just my opinion and I have not had a close look at any of them. If you can help just phone her on the number in the ebay listing and arrange a suitable time. If you can get better photos, she will appreciate them and many of our members would likely be interested too. Keep us all posted. Cheers,

Nice buy Dave J with your shaper, although if you had paid $1000 for the big russian , that would have been a good buy too I think.
Woodlee, there is a Douglas in Bunbury, W.A. on eBay at the moment for around $150 which could be of interest for you. You would have to check your transport options, but if you could get a backloading deal happening it may be a goer. All the best ,

I think it would have been a bargain, it was the transport that killed the deal. The fellow I spoke to didn't know if a B double could get in there, didn't know if his crane could get under a taught liner etc, and it was a bit far to be towing 2 ton on a trailer with a 6 cyl commodore wagon.

I was watching that as well, but the same problems apply. Would it really be 2 ton though? Looks little.

It went through with only 1 bid on the thousand so I would have had to bid more, would have been nice though.
Don't let looks fool you that is a well made shaper, the vice would way around 100kg.
Also the dual axle trailer needed to put this would weigh 400-600kg depending on how well it's built.

I think we're at cross porpoises. I'm talking about the little Douglas in Ropetangler's link. $150, 0 bids, electrical issues.

I thought you were talking about the Russian one. The one in the link is a bargain, not much can go wrong with these that isn't repairable. I had to pull the electric motor etc off mine and convert it to 240v.
Transport is usually pretty reasonable from there to NSW from what I have seen, maybe around $200-$250.
