I'm not sure that is an issue (in my instance) as I will always be using the angle plate on the milling machine for horizontal milling.

The reference surface is the milling table and all I require is for the milling cutter (when horizontal milling) to be parallel to the face of the angle plate. It *should* always be parallel in the up/down direction and I just need to set parallel in the side to side direction using a dial gauge.

I haven't used my angle plate a lot, but on the occasions that I have used it, the above rings true.
    Cheers.

    Vernon.

    Hi Vernon, Guys,

I understand that you swung the mill head to 90 degrees, but how would you do it if you didn't have that ability or a horizontal mill.

I'm just struggling to get my head around how it could be done without having two reference surfaces. Obviously the mill table is one of them. Getting two surfaces parallel should be easy ! One edge and one plane.

I don't follow how you can setup to do the second plane without another angle plate or a cylindrical square.
    Best Regards:
    Baron J.

    Default Rock Bucket

So I've had a big old pile of bricks mixed with dirt sitting in the back paddock for a decade or thereabouts.

I've been meaning to do something about it, for a decade or thereabouts.

My solution to a decade or thereabouts of inaction is to build something - a rock bucket that will allow me to sieve the bricks and make a new pile that is just bricks and no dirt.

I expect that new pile will probably sit there for a similar period to the dirt-brick pile.

Anyway, wanted to do this with steel on hand, so started bending some 25NB gal pipe.
    IMG_3046.jpg IMG_3047.jpg

Looking at other, better made rock buckets, I noticed they had a cross piece at the front to keep all the bars in alignment, so I holesawed them all to take another piece of gal something NB.
    IMG_3048.jpgIMG_3049.jpg

Then I mitred the ends to a point, and cut little bits of flat bar to weld over them.
    IMG_3050.jpg

The tractor I'm making it for has a "Burder" front end loader, with what I assume is their own, made up bucket attachment system. Basically 38mm and 25mm holes on 297mm centres. So I made up some attachment plates out of 100x12mm flat bar, holesawed the 2 holes and then used my $50 Gumtree bandsaw to chop out the profile for the top attachment pin.
    IMG_3053.jpg

Then it was just a matter of sticking it all together on the welding bench.
    IMG_3054.jpg IMG_3055.jpg

And adding some side pieces outside.
    IMG_3056.jpg

It's quite little. Only about 1m wide. That's intentional, as the tractor is fairly small, it can only lift a bit under a tonne with a tailwind, so I wanted to make sure the rock bucket would have fewer problems penetrating a pile and lifting a load. I also have no idea whether what I've made will actually hold up, or just bend, shear or snap with use, so there's an element of experimentation with a view to repairs and improvements as needed.

Nice work, that should sort your bricks out, hopefully they won't fall through the tines.

The tines have 75mm gaps, which is big compared to the other rock buckets I looked at online, but should be ideal for filtering bricks.

    Default Lathe MT4 Arbor Holder

This is something I created on the weekend for the lathe, not to bad, about a 90% (hard marker), holes should have been 0.5mm smaller and when I learn the 'radius function' on the mill I'll remove it and do the sharp corner.

Made from 25mm HDPE to suit MT4 arbors.

Hi Aaron, any idea which bearing shop? I've used all of them and never saw any plastic off-cuts in any of them? I'll be asking them from now on....

Yes Shed, a bit spendy I thought. You would have a pretty wide choice of materials costing less, silver and gold might be out, but copper, most bronzes, titanium would be in I think, not sure about tungsten or lithium, but copper would look pretty blingy either polished or you could slop yoghurt all over it to give it a nice green colour

    Default BXA toolholder

I've never shared any of my projects before, not sure why I'm doing it now. Be gentle. BXA tool holder just done, waiting for the wavy washer and I have to get off my butt and drive the 20km to get some more bluing solution. Cheers, Phil.
