    Default Whats a good, general, all purpose oil?

    Hi all, im running out of lubricating oil and want to know where to get more and what to look for. Im also out of threadlocker and grease, any thoughts on these would be great.

    I have used automatic transmision fluid in the past, high temp, nice and light and its a pretty colour

    Your local auto parts will have all that you listed. Shipping on flammable stuff cost heaps so it's usually better to buy local.

    Yeah that...

    BUT - ATF does a pretty good job of being a 'do all' oil, after all in a auto transmission it acts as a diff oil, gear oil, hydraulic oil, coolant etc etc

    As the others have implied, you really have to be a bit more specific in what you want to use the oil and grease for. Lubrication is a whole field on its own.

    In answer to your open question the cheapest you can find,for oil even used oil would be fine.
    For grease vasoline lard fat lanolin any thing cheap.

    i found a bottle of manual transmission oil so i just used that

    $7.50 for roughly a litre, seems alright to me

    If thats the 90 weight oil, it's thick and it stinks.

    well it flows quite well through a small orfice, and i cant smell it when using it
