That guy is roundly despised on metal working forums. For obvious reasons. I think he must be a wind-up artist, because I can't imagine any rational person melting down an industrial quality lathe just to make a backyard quality one.

I would like a casting operation though...need more space for it and a forge and a heavy equipment bay*. Green Acres here we come.

*Although my wife won't let me buy either a used forklift or crane truck. I'm doing it tough brothers...

I had a look at that guys actions going from a US Board. I think it was a South Bend lathe he was breaking up. That stirred them up for sure as South Bend was a big icon to them of America's industrial age. Personally I could not see the point when you can just get stuff broken up ready to melt from a scrapper.

That is one of the most objectionable things I think I have ever seen on the internet.

I could think of a better use for his sledgehammer but I don't think he would like it.

He says it's a "Walcott" lathe. Sure looks very similar to an early Southbend.

I think it's fair to say he enjoys winding people up

Makes you wonder who would offer that much? I'm thinking about selling my Hafco and I'd love to get $2K for it, but I think $1500 would be a more realistic figure. But then mine doesn't come with preinstalled rust.

Any thing with sharp teeth eats meat.
    Most powertools have sharp teeth.
    People are made of meat.
Abrasives can be just as dangerous as a blade.....and 10 times more painfull.
