Thread: Photo resolution?

This ol' chestnut. Hubby downloaded a photo resizing program. (Goldberg. ) I wanted something a bit smaller than Photo shop to do the job cos I felt like I was zapping a mozzy with rather out of proportion large gun. Anyway, so the dimensions can be 1600 wide apparently for jpg files, and 246.5 kb is says on the list (Vague memory of those figures being smaller before but heh! ) So what is a good resolution for them? 150 pixels per inch or something isn't it? I keep ending up with postage stamps.

Programs that work in pixels per inch are confusing and those that refer to resolution in terms of pixels per inch are just plain wrong. Resolution is just the absolute number of pixels wide and the number high. See if you can find a program that works in absolute pixels.

It does have absolute pixels, but it doesn't seem to do the same thing twice. Then if I "save as" it makes the size smaller again for some reason. Maybe I need an aplication SLIGHTLY bigger than this one. Any suggestions?

Probably there is a leetle box somewhere that is clicked that says to use the pixels per inch instead of abasolute pixels. If not you need to find out the display resolution of your screen (#Pixels wide and divide that by your actual screen width) and work to that many pixels/inch.

Ooooooooh! That looks kinda cool. Can resize 'em in batches and all. Will still have to wait for Hubby. I'm such a 'puter nube.

Just upload as an attachment and vBulletin will do the job for you. Takes a while to upload and convert but it's all done and you don't need a program to do it for here.

You caqn evfen upload directly from your camera if you want to.

Just don't go trying to put a 1600px wide pic in your post or it'll be deleted almost immediately.

Now I'm confuzzled. I thought we had to resize them.

Its best to because large photos take a long time to upload.

I'm running MS Windows, and use Image Resizer from MS. Once installed, it is very easy to use. Right click the photo, and select 'Resize Pictures' from the popup menu, and select the size you want. It then resizes, and also reduces the file size to below the forum limit. I size mine to 800X600 for the forum, and have never had an issue. You can find it here.

No good in TL's case as she is on one of those strange and inferior machine called a MAC

Apart from that I thought Mac's had an inbuilt program to do this, pretty sure some one mentioned that here once.

This is an MS program and hubby doesn't want to install it on here.

What I'm having trouble with is that I tell the resizer to make the pic 800 pixels by whatever wide, but I can't tell it I want a file size of 100kb. Not directly anyway. I have to use a quality slide bar thingy that doesn't tell me how big the file is until after its doesn the saving. Stupid 'puters. They only do whatever you tell tem too. (I'm gonna have to get graphic converter again aren't I . )
