Spam in PM inbox
G'day moderators, I replied to an ad in the marketplace section this morning, also PM'd the seller. Checking my inbox this afternoon I had 2 messages; one from the seller with his details for payment, another from an apparent forum member in Hungary with zero posts, inviting me to contact the seller via apparent sham contact details (all of the below is a copy of the dodgy message, including the 'tapatalk' line):
Hello mate, pm the seller on the gmail or phone number below for fast response.

Cheers.

Hi Pete O,
If we are going to deal with this character I am going to need every detail contained in the PM, not just the offending text itself. Because it is a PM, I or anyone else has no access to the PM , only you.

Just an idea: As a security measure perhaps if PM’s are restricted for a member who has more than 10 posts on the forum. Similar to how the first few posts are moderated.

Guys
Just so you all understand.
The name joojava does not appear in the members list. I have checked.
If joojava has used this name in his PM to Pete O, this, is what I want to know.
I will have to talk to the senior administrator as to how the deal with joojava.
Bear in mind out forum has been experiencing messaging problems of all types ,recently, so It may take time to resolve.

Hi Kafie
Thank you
Your suggestion is something we may have to look at.
Our members might be amazed at the level of attacks that this forum is subject to.

Attention all members -especially the recent ones.
At this point I will assume those members who have been around for a time or two are erudite enough to
not reply to an initial PM approach in the METALWORK - Machinery, Equipment, MARKET
If you have only been around for a very short time in a forum and want to partake of the
METALWORK - Machinery, Equipment, MARKET be warned.
Read the market rules especially pertaining to PMs and emails. The acceptance is ALWAYS on line.
If you get scammed you can't say you were not warned.

Thanks for the attention to my post, I've been out for the evening and just checked in. Further information about the sus PM:
User name is 'gunexpact' shown as 'new member' and the green dot has been illuminated each time I've looked at the message.
Join date is April 2023. location is Hungary, no mention of age, post count zero. The PM subject line is 'Mak-a-key key steel' which is a direct copy of the title of the 'for sale' post that I replied to.
Date posted was 26 April, 4:19pm
Thanks again for all the hard work the administrators do on this kind of stuff.Last edited by Pete O; 26th Apr 2023 at 11:08 PM. Reason: left out a couple of details (date & time)

Thanks Grahame
Sorry, I only just got notification of this a couple of hours ago.
THE BELOW IS IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR EVERYONE
If you get a suspect/spam/scan PM please click on the Report Post icon (the triangle with the !) on the bottom nav bar below the message.
Doing this should give us the correct information so it can be fixed quickly and easily.
The sender of the PM reported in this thread was gunexpact and the IP was 86.106.74.118 from Romania.
It was not joojava7 as was thought although that name had 10 submissions to Stop Forum Spam (SFS).
This lowlife gunexpact has now been banned and reported to SFS which will see him/her/it banned from well over 200,000 forums and blogs around the world.
