AL320G thread cutting issue
Hi Folks
I was asked by a work friend to turn an M10 LH thread course (1.5). Always happy to help, I consulted the HAFCO manual and set top the gearbox for 1.5 metric. I did a scratch pass and found it was extremely fine.
I know some of the ratios in the book are wrong. Is anyone out there able to help ?
I'm a sort of a beginner, I turned a few threads before and it's worked OK
Cheers

The change gears specified for 1.5mm pitch in the manual on H&F website calculate out to be correct if the leadscrew is a 3mm pitch, and the spindle output M spins at the same speed as the chuck.
That is, a 24T on the spindle output, driving a 60T. 60T is keyed to a 30T. The 30T drives a 36T which is keyed to a 42T. The 42T drives a 28T on the 'gearbox' input.
A casual observation would be that engaging the powerfeed lever rather than the halfnut lever would result in a 0.524mm pitch. I'd be quite sure that's been done before....

Hi Jekyll
My bad, I found what I was doing wrong, I was using the wrong lever to engage the carriage. All set up now and cutting a beautiful 1.5 thread pitch
