Database Error at @11.10 am EST. (Edit the 4th....the forum clock is out.....I think....it says I posted this at 10:20)

Also a Database Error last night.....but I hadn't noticed the "Help Wanted " sign so I took no notice of the time.

Edit: Interesting.......I posted this and was shown the "Cannot display webpage" screen. Refreshed....no good. Closed browser (Internet Exploder) and opened it again, all fine and post showed up.

2nd Edit: Clicked "save" and got "I E cannot display this webpage", refresh no good.....close tab....open new tab.....load Ubeaut Forum from favourites....works fine.

Taking deep breath and about to click "save".

    3rd Edit: It worked!
We don't know how lucky we are......

    Hi Neil,

Today is the first time I have visited the site in several months, and I certainly noticed a slowdown in response to what I had previously encountered. When looking at items for sale(Or Sold)

I am a formaer Database Designer and Developer, and am wondering if the issue may be the result of the Database of entries having grown to the point whre it is unmanageable.

Regardless of whether this may be a factor in the slow page posting and occasional timeouts, I suggest looking at moving sold items from the main database to an alternate database, allowing members to view such if needed, but limiting the size of the database by limiting it to jut the unsold items. I also suggest allowing users to select a filter that shows items from their own stat only,.

    Good luck resolving the issue.

So could you please help where and when possible, by notifying us of any speed issues you encounter whilst using the forums. Slow loading of pages, page hangs or times out when loading or posting etc.

What we need to know is:
    • What happened? (time out, hang, very slow response, etc)
The page just sat there for 5 minutes on one occasion, 2.5 minutes another, and 15 after leaving it to do whatever. So I guess this can be said to be VERY VERY SLOW or a hang.

I tried to load the thread for the Aussie swap, the thread for pen turning, the thread for reporting the hangup, and my messages.

I use a DSL wired modem running through a wireless D-link router. I am 10 feet from the router. Same thing occurs if hardwired into the modem. I have nio problems loadig the other forums or sites I visit. They all are reasonably fast.

Any and all assistance we can get will be greatly appreciated and hopefully will help to speed things up considerably.

    Cheers - Neil

PS If you think the forums are running faster since Dec 20th please also let us know.
Not running very fast at all. If I start it from scratch it loads fairly quickly then dies off. Once I am in the forum it seems to fall off.

Good luck with this one. Internet issues are always a pain in the *%^*&T^, if ya know what I mean.

    Thanks,
    Larry

8/1 at 3.15pm approx 1min. to open new message and over 2min. to send. This was in scroll saw forum but seems to be happening more often in all forums. ADSL wired modem.

Yesterday as part of my regular computer maintenance, I deleted temp files, history, cookies, saved passwords etc. Now, every time I want to log onto the Forum, I have to type in my forum name and password, despite ticking "Remember me", which is a bit of a pain.

I have rebooted a couple of times but still need to type in forum name and password to log on.

It may not be related in any way to the data base problems currently being experienced.

You need to tick the box marked Keep Me Logged On, or words to that effect.
You have deleted the cookie that was set the last time you did that, doing it again will create a new cookie for you.

I'm using my Linux EEE with Firefox and have had normal (quick) connection times for loading the Forums home page, posting a reply and editing said reply.

Glad things seem normal for you now.

However, we have been under a concerted spam attack for a while now. If you see what appears to be a spammer slipping through please let us know. It may appear as a slightly weird sounding post, in a signature block or in Blog or Album comments.
