Default new members posting to blogs

There's a lot of new members who join and do their first post in the blog section rather than in the forum - they are usually asking a question that should be in a forum. Are they missing something obvious in the instructions when they join or does something need to be added to help new members post in the right area? It must be frustrating for them as hardly anybody responds in that section.
Also I notice a fair bit of spam gets posted there - is anybody keeping an eye on that? I report stuff on occasion but not there frequently enough.

    Cheers
    Michael

I,like many others, never look there. Blogs are for bloggers and forums are for communicating and interaction between members.

Not necessarily Michael, it is one of the things we're hoping to sort out with the new forum software, if we ever get there

I agree with you Michael - I tried for over a year to PM new members who put these things on blogs, but they almost never came back to me or moved their post onto the Forums. So I gave up, especially as we should get noew software sometime to fix the issue.

I often check the blogs I like reading what Jeremy, Cruzi and Michael have been up to.
I always post a suggestion to move their question to the forum section.

I am new to this forum but am a long term member of others (OCAU for computing, audio-visual etc, and Crackberry for Blackberry phones - the hugest global forum I have seen) and both use this forum engine, as do hundreds of other forums.

As an experienced forum user and contributor, I found my way around here fine, but maybe others don't - there are indeed more ads and sponsor banners than I am used to seeing. (well, maybe not more than Crackberry until you register)

I REALLY hope you aren't going to change the engine, just keep on upgrading it. Other forum engines such as that used at DTVForum is easy enough to use but I find this engine far more flexible and better, as a user.
