    Default First post - EXAMPLE

Hopefully this post will give some sort of an idea as to what might be good to post in this forum.

If I had a photo of my metalwork prowess I'd post it here but my metal work abilities are all but useless so I've posted a pic of pattern made for Bilmans Foundry Castlemaine back in the early 1990s along with a pic of one of the finished items and a cutting of pic from Castlemaine mail.

There were a number of patterns made but this is the only one I have a photo of. The pattern(s) were for the street lamps that can be seen in in the main street of Ballarat Victoria. The light poles are huge

The below: is Acanthus leaf pattern for section around half way up the pole.
From memory it takes 8 of these to go around the pole.

The below is taken from Castlemaine Mail when the poles were ready to be shipper out to Ballarat.
Perspective makes it look way smaller than it actually is.

OK so I've given this new forum a kick start.
Now lets see what some you real metalworkers have got to show.

Post anything from Auto Restoration to Wrought Iron and any other letter or combinations of letters in the alphabet.

JUMP IN AND HAVE A GO PEOPLE!

    Cheers - Neil

    So I'm assuming the following.

If you primarily made it yourself it goes into the Metal Work Projects forum?
If you happened to see, found, acquired, bought, or someone else made it for you then it goes in this forum?

Doesn't matter either way. This forum was requested initially for Gunsmithing Forum. However if I was to doo it for that forum I'd have to do it for all forums. So.... It's one Show and Tell for for to be used by all forums.

Like little kids at school. They'll bring anything to Show and Tell, a rock or leaf they found on the way to school, something they drew or made, even a little sister or brother.... ANYTHING!

This forum is purely for Show and Tell nothing else. It's for all forums and stuff, anything a member from any of the forums on here may deem worthy. It is not here to take away from posting in other forums.

    It is for:

    • Hey look what I made.
    • This is what I'm going to make.
    • I saw this and thought it might be of interest.
    • Found this at the back of cupboard thought I lost it years ago.
    • Purchased this tool today.
    • etc
    • etc
    • etc

Let us not complicate things... IT'S JUST SHOW 'N' TELL.

I have a passion for the Victorian era cast iron anything.

Primary the cast iron panels as could be used to enclose a verandah, the the ornate fireplace grills, railway carriage shelf brackets and of course the lamp posts.

And old hand tools like wood planes, too.

All beauty to my eyes! Much better made, better looking and long lasting. Yeah

Charters Towers, West of Townsville has a bit of this if you keep you eye out to look for it.It is another gold mining town.It had it own stock exchange ,at its peak.

By golly, looking at that particular lamp post, those Victorian era dogs must have been tall, to manage doing what dogs inevitably do on lamp posts.

if that's the case then it strikes me as a bit redundant as the forums are already about 50% show and tell.

Just to explain, It was my suggestion, The reason being that I have a Firearm that I want to basically show off, it does not really come under gunsmithing as there is no, "creating" or "Putting together", just showing it and a description, and this is not in the theme of gunsmithing and would have turned it into a Guns show and tell, Unfortunately there will a a bit of a wait for my contribution as one item is out of stock and the sub forum went up in the blink of an eye.

OK - I understand the issue but still not sure about the solution. Maybe it would have been better to have a general "everything else" forum like the "nothing to do with woodworking" in the WWF.
One of the things I like about the MWF is the relatively few numbers of forums as this makes it easier to fund stuff.

Maybe "gunsmithing" should have just been renamed "firearms"?
    Anyway lets see what happens

Absolutely. The number of sub-forums here is getting out of control.

OK, but that isn’t metalworking. Perhaps a gun forum would be more appropriate? I’m not anti guns. I own two.

I'm presuming that was tongue in cheek and if not. Ya gotta be jokin.

There have been 5 new forums put on heresince 2015 and all at the request of members. That's far from out of control.

The idea of a single Show and Tell forum was been spelled out in previous post.

Far better to have one central Show and Tell than add one to each of the forums, then it might start to get out of control, as that would have meant another16 new forums.

To relieve the angst this seems to have caused some members, I have moved the Show and Tell from Metalwork Forums to Forums & Members Help.
