Unsual Object !
Hi Guys,
I saw this ornate cast iron object today. It stands about 14 feet tall and is about 40 inches in diameter. The top has air vents and it is nicely decorated with cast iron panels. It dates from the late 1800's to the beginning of the 1900's.

I now know what it is, does anybody else ?Best Regards:

Saw the pic on your deleted thread so I I'm pretty sure I know what it is but I won't give the game away.

The Answer !
Hi Guys,
I said in my last post that I would provide the answer to the mystery picture !

I didn't discover what this thing was until I looked around the back and saw this plaque. Made by the forerunner of the "Electricity Board" in England. Originally painted a pale green now very weathered and more grey its still quite majestic.
The three phase cables came up from underneath and exited the same way.

Apologies for the size of the picture I don't know why its failed to crop ! [Fixedby BobL]

I don't know if its correct or not but apparently the first few installed were only about 6ft tall and people used to post letters into the air gap. Then during any sort of civil unrest idiots would pile rubbish up against the sides and set the rubbish on fire and take out the power for a couple of city/town blocks.

Thanks Bob, I have no idea why that picture didn't crop properly.
The one that I photographed apparently was used to feed one of the factories, now demolished. Rescued and stood in the museum yard where I spotted it. Other than that I've very little information on it, there wasn't any signs to tell you about it. The member of staff that I spoke to knew very little, not knowing what it was until I pointed out the plaque riveted on the side, and that was round the back and not obvious.
I'll have to do a search on the net and see if I can find anything.Best Regards:
