Latest 3D designs and prints
These are all for dust extraction

Here's a 100mm BMH on my DP.
This BMH has an added 10mm flange around the outside to help it draw more from the from of the hood than the back. Its not possible to do this with my normal "PVC pipe heating and stretching over former" method as the PVC just tears If I try too stretch it that far
Minor problem here is I cannot bring the BMH in close to the action as it interferes with the handles. I'll be swapping it to the opposite side,

I've just started to print my first 150mm BMH with a 15 mm external flange.
Print size is 276 x 276 x 78mm tall - its the biggest X-Y direction print I've done with this printer.
Print time is scheduled for about 30 hours! I could do it about twice as fast but I need as decent a finish as possible.

Looks like a worthwhile project - what 3d CAD are you using ? I'm using the hobby version of Fusion360, works well for me for both 3D printing and the cnc mill, I had planned for a 4th axis on the mill but the hobby version of Fusion only allows for the basic 3 axis setup when milling.

I'm using OPEN SCAD. It's a programming language based app (you write the code and it generates the shapes) so it suits people like me with a programming and maths background. It also helps if you can think in 3D. I initially tried 360 but I was unhappy with my progress, then I tried SCAD and because I can already program I found the learning curve acceptable. Some say it's not a fancy as 360 but I'm really impressed at the myriad of shapes it can generate with a bit of thought. Now that I have some experience with SCAD I might give 360 another try.

This is my biggest (in x-y direction) print so far
Its a bell mouth hood (BMH) to fit inside a 150mm sewer pipe junction, which is 160.2mm ID
The added flange makes it 276mm wide overall/fitting
Printer has a 300 x 300 x 400 print volume.
276mmBMH.jpg
Only problem is instead of making the OD of the BMH the same as the ID of the fitting (160.2mm) I printed the required OD of the BMH as the ID ! The result is the ID of the BMH is too big to fit the sewer fitting DANG I hate that,
Approx $7 of filament, $1.50 of power and 36 hours of print time down the gurgler! Still, I've wasted more in swarf on some metal projects so I have to get used to this. 36 hours is not really wasted as I go do other things while its printing

I've had my share of stuff ups - my old high school woodwork teacher always used to say 'measure twice cut once' over the years I've learnt it doesn't only apply to woodwork.
Dust extraction is something I should attend to but you know what they say if you're not making dust there is no need and when you are making dust you need to finish the current job first.
I checked out openscad, while I haven't done a lot of programming that part doesn't scare me - I'd like to be able to output Gcode for the mill and looks like openscad doesn't do this.

I kept doing that and one day I lost my sense of smell - only for 6 weeks but it frightened me enough to start sorting out the dust my shed. Losing your sense of smell effects your sense of taste, beer smelled like sewage. I could not distinguish between the taste of onions or apples - although peeling onions still brought tears to my eyes. It took me 6 years (on and off - of course) to get some reasonable dust extraction going - now I have a fully ducted 150 PVC pipe system for wood and a 1600 CFM fume/welding hood for metal work.

3D printing Tesla accessories.
Getting back into any project work since my wife (Amanda) died has been difficult but about 6 weeks back I managed to print out a heap of baby dragons for my grandies etc, and now I have a new reason to print a few things as I got myself a new vehicle. I sold Amanda's horse float, her 4WD, and our caravan (which was always much more her thing than mine) which liberated a lot of driveway space (YAY!) and quite a bit of cash so I bought myself a Tesla model Y. I've spent a week wrestling with the software and setting up for home EV charging etc and also discovered there are loads of Tesla related 3D printer plans on Thiniverse. As usual 95% are toys etc but there are a couple of useful things that I have been giving a go.
The first one of these is a tray and a small bin for the capacious centre console storage space which is just one great big covered hole so the tray and bin divide it up into a more useful/cleaner space.
This print was done with carbon fibre impregnated PLA.

The tray sits on top of the bin in the console space lklik this

The dimensions on the tray plans were too narrow to sit properly on the ledge some 40 mm below the console opening cover, and too tall to allow the console sliding top cover to close over the top of the tray so I simply rescaled it to fit the space .
In contrast, the bin was too wide to fit and so I had to scale that as well.
I'm now working on under seat HVAC vent cover grills to prevent small stuff from falling into the vent opening.
3 of my brothers - well 2 and a BIL - also have Teslas and we've started our own club. Of course when they see these plans they'll be wanting them too.
BTW the new vehicle is so much fun and easy to drive once you get used to it.
I also like it because it's quiet and relatively unassuming.
