    Default Padsaw blade orientation

Not a tool I often use, but at times a padsaw is very useful for getting into spaces where a hacksaw won't fit.
I'm talking about the type of padsaw that takes normal hacksaw blades.
I used to lament how prone they are to bending or breaking blades, being as they are only supported at one end.
Then it dawned on me to install the blade so that it cuts on the back-stroke, like a Japanese wood saw.
    No more blade problems.
It's probably a well known technique, but I've never seen one sold with instructions.

Brilliant. I’d never thought to do that, and I own two Japanese pull saws!
I’ve shattered heaps of hacksaw blades using that type of blade holder. Hopefully no more.

Yes, that’s definitely the way to run them.
Otherwise it’s like playing pool with a rope for a cue

Yep that's How I use mine.
I have one handle that holds a hacksaw blade cut to a tapered sharp point. I use this to cut out small rectangular switch holes in plastic project boxes. Drill ~6mm hole in inside corners. Then insert the sharp tapered point which easily enables a cut to be started. Sometime I cut holes with a vibratory multi type tool but it tends to partially remelt some of the cut back together. The stapered point which easily cuts through the stuck bits.
