my best work to date WIP pics
hey guys,
here is my best work yet, i couldnt have done it without the help of don robinson a knife maker, who supplied me with a cad drawing and also a bucket load of help and advice. so far i have spent about three and a half days on this and there is about another half a day to go just doing the final sanding and polishing on the handle.
i had heaps of fun making this and will definately make a few more of them.
below are a couple of my WIP pictures and there are more here holmsy2000's Library | Photobucket

Nice one Holmsy. A trad looking Barlow with wild scales...is it Bakelite or tortoise shell?! I had a look at the Photobucket shots too...are all the seperate pieces tempered etc, the spring part obviously?
Good effort, and thanks for showing us.
Cheers,

thanks andy,
its a trad barlow style with one major difference being that its a locking knife not a slipjoint. i love the scales theyre fake tortoise sheel, they call it celuloid. very easy to work so long as you dont over heat it, my handle actually caught fire twice, had to blow it out like a candle, and its got some nasty fumes so had to wear a respirator.
actually the only part thats heat treated is the blade and the back spacer, the 2 side liners are made of titanium which has natural spring qualities when you buy it so there was no need to treat that at all.
once i recess the front 2 screws i can sand the bolsters and etch it because theyre actually damascus, so it will look even cooler then.
